In Japan, where hard work is highly commended, professionals continue to struggle with striking a work-life balance. Tokyo remains to be one of the most overworked cities in the world, and new remote-working arrangements have made it even harder to separate business from personal time.
Japanese brands are confronting this concern with creative new products; one company recently invented a small one-legged table that can only hold your food if you slot your phone where the other leg should be, following a study that showed 75-percent of people haven’t been able to enjoy their meals. Another firm, a beauty and health-focused brand called Zyplus, has debuted a ‘Noodle Wall’ with a small theater pocket to encourage some time alone.
Masked as an unassuming business folder to fit into any formal setting and shelf, the Noodle Wall is a little privacy screen, about B5 in size, that is designed to protect your desk from being splashed by noodle broth.
Beyond keeping your workspace clean, the Noodle Wall is aimed at creating a “psychological wall” so you can take some time off for yourself. It comes with a clear pocket to slide your smartphone into so you can spend your lunch hour catching up on your favorite series n peace.
The clever item is priced at ¥2,178 (US$21) on Amazon Japan.
