Motorola, the kingpin of flip phones, has made a comeback with the revival of its iconic Razr foldable phone. The cultural icon will be sold from 26 December 2019 in Europe and as a Verizon exclusive in the US before its retail takeover in January.
Priced at US$1,499, the foldable phone is still comparably affordable to rivals like the US$1,980 Galaxy Fold and Huawei’s US$2,600 Mate X.
The 6.2-inch smartphone is optimized with a small battery of 2,510mAh with runs on the Android 9 Pie operating system. However, it does not come with 5G offering, which is currently a competitive feature in the smartphone market.
Undoubtedly, the specifications do not come close to the actual drawing point of the phone because —let’s be honest— it’s the foldable feature that has everyone intrigued.
The folded phone fits its users’ palms seamlessly with its 14mm thickness, slightly denser than its predecessor at 13.9mm.
The high-resolution panel promises a subtler crease compared to its direct rival, the Galaxy Fold, and offers a 2.7-inch exterior touchscreen as well.
When folded, the smaller screen allows users to access commonly-used apps, check for notifications, make calls and send texts. Owners of the 2019 Razr can also use its small display to toggle music they are listening to and even use it as a viewfinder when taking selfies.
The Razr has marked a generation and even cemented its place in pop culture since 2004. Now, its resurrection will pay homage to longtime fans with a little feature. When the dialler is active and a soft key is pressed, the Razr will play a nostalgic tune: “Hello Moto.”

Here's a side-by-side of the @Moto #razr2019 versus original black #Razr. Impressed with design cues echoing original Razr and thickness is similar. It's a wider product but feels great in the hand as well as fitting neatly in your pocket. pic.twitter.com/iOgGNIxrMS— Ben Wood (@benwood) November 14, 2019
