While nightmarish stories about designer-client strains are actually few and far between, there’ll be times when you meet that one business partner who’ll make you want to pull your hair out.
And then you’ll be tempted to fill their project with this deliberately horrible typeface. Don’t do it.
Type designer Wei Huang created ‘Times New Bastard’ based on a Tumblr comment by illustrator Ommanyte, which reads, “I’m going to make a new font called ‘Times New Bastard’... it’s ‘Times New Roman’ but every seventh letter is jarringly sans serif.”
Huang then brought that vision to life, sharing the objectively disturbing results on GitHub. Despite its name, the typeface builds upon the free ‘Nimbus Roman No. 9 L’ and Helvetica-based ‘Nimbus Sans’.
The typeface is free for all to use. Click here to download it and check out its licensing details.
