Instagrammers just love the Eiffel Tower, so much so that it’s purportedly the most coveted tourist attraction in the world.
A recent study by macOS-native photo tool Motif, via AFP Relax News, captures Instagram’s favorite tourist spots based on how many hashtags the landmarks have accrued since the social network debuted. The Parisian monument literally towers over with 5,849,737 hashtags, making it the “most popular” one in that respect.
Mentions made of the Eiffel Tower on Instagram far transcend those of runners-up Las Vegas Strip (4,802,560 hashtags) and NYC’s Times Square (3,949,217 mentions).
In the Middle East, travelers are especially drawn to Dubai’s Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, which boasts 3,502,116 hashtags.
London is represented by Big Ben (3,007,317 mentions) and the London Eye (2,980,066 hashtags).
Unfortunately, no Asian tourist attractions have been identified in this ranking, but this just means there are more places around the world to discover, like this magical pond in Japan that’s straight out of Claude Monet’s Water Lily paintings.
