The digital era brought about a new occupation: the social media influencer. To a lot of people, it is the dream job, one that isn’t confined to nine-to-five business hours and comes bridled with freebies and travel opportunities.
Essentially, influencers’ job is to make people stop scrolling and to pay attention to them. Due to its “look at me” nature, it has one unspoken requisite: for the celebrity to be good-looking. So, what might the “ideal” social media face look like?
Paper Magazine’s Katherine Gillepsie and Nicholas Ripp have combined the faces of Instagram’s 100 most popular accounts to create the ultimate one.
For accuracy, Gillepsie and Ripp excluded celebrities who made it big without social media, and broke down the rest according to their age, ethnicity, locations and beats.
As you might have guessed, the image morphed out of the 100 faces depicts a young white woman. Her profile describes her to hail from America, where most social media influencers are from, and imagines her forte to be beauty or modeling.
Social media’s favorite celebs “gravitate toward California,” Gillepsie details, which echoes where people traditionally find fame. The top 100 are also predominantly “female, white and English-speaking,” with over one-third living in Los Angeles.
