Ben & Jerry’s co-founder Ben Cohen isn’t cold-hearted about politics. Following “anti-Trump” ice cream released by the company, he has announced a new Bernie Sanders-inspired flavor that’s slated to be the first of several others.
“This is just the first in a full line of Bernie flavors,” Cohen tweeted. “We’re going all the way this time. And when Bernie’s in the White House and I become the Minister of Ice Cream—a pint in every freezer, a sundae in every bowl.”
The first flavor was actually released in 2016 under the moniker ‘Bernie’s Yearning’, but has been brought back and renamed as ‘Ben’s Best’ in time for the 2020 election.
In a dedicated website called JusticeInAllItsFlavors.com, the flavor is described as “Hot Cinnamon Ice Cream with one very large chocolate disc on top and a (very stiff) butter toffee backbone going down the middle.”
The chocolate disc is symbolic of “all the wealth that has risen to the top one percent,” Cohen details, and the “backbone” is akin to Sanders’ “steadfast determination to unrig out economy.” As for the hot cinnamon base, it represents the “political revolution holding politicians' feet to the fire to make America work for working people of all races and genders.”
The ‘Ben’s Best’ pints are available in limited counts until 9 August, but worry not if you can’t get your hands on a tub—there’ll be more to come to ensure you feel the (freeze) Bern.
