Burger King Serves Retro ‘Upside Down’ Meals Ahead Of ‘Stranger Things 3’
By Izza Sofia, 14 Jun 2019
Burger King is introducing its ‘Whoppers’ in true Stranger Things style by flipping not just its patties, but also its packaging.
The special ‘Upside Down Whopper’ is, admittedly, no different from an ordinary one, except that it is served upside down and served in a retro 80s-inspired wrapper, paying homage to the era that the series takes place in.
The ‘Upside Down’, for the uninitiated, is an alternate dimension that occurs in tandem with the human world.
In addition to changing up its meals, Burger King also debuted a promotional video that mimics the style of the opening credits of the Netflix original.
The ‘Upside Down Whopper’ will be available to purchase starting 21 June is participating BK outlets including locations in New York, Boston, Chicago and Los Angeles. Fans can also pick up Stranger Things merchandise from these restaurants.
The fast food chain is also offering a promotion for DoorDash customers. To enjoy a US$5 ‘Hopper Meal’—a pun on the name of ‘Jim Hopper’—customers can key in “STRANGER” at the checkout page.
The deal includes a regular ‘Whopper’, small fries and a small drink, and the code will remain valid until 20 June. However, fans can still enjoy the promotion after that by entering the code “HOPPER,” which will stay valid till 7 July.
Other companies that have collaborated with Stranger Things include Coca-Cola—which recently announced that it would be bringing back its “New Coke” recipe from 1985—and LEGO, which introduced an ‘Upside Down’ kit.
