IKEA Pokes Fun At Apple’s US$6K Mac Pro With Its Own ‘Designed For Apples’ Item
By Izza Sofia, 11 Jun 2019
Apple revealed its latest Mac Pro at the 2019 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC), and fans couldn’t help but liken the offering to an overpriced cheese grater.
While it is packed with high performance specs, the US$5,999 machine also whetted the appetites of Apple fans with its boxy silver case and big holes that are better off scraping gouda cheese. Twitter users took the opportunity to troll Apple, and IKEA Bulgaria, too, has now joined in on the fun.
The flat-pack company teamed up with advertising company The Smarts to ridicule Apple’s extravagant new hardware. Plastered on the print is IKEA’s ‘iDEALISK’ grater, with the front ‘i’ intentionally set in lowercase to mimic the brandings of Apple’s iPhones and iPads.
The ad comes with a cheeky tagline that reads, “Designed for apples.” The company, of course, didn’t stop there, and went on to emphasize the affordable price point of the ‘iDEALISK’. For only 3,99LV (US$2.30), you can bag a similar apple or cheese grater without breaking the bank.
