A recent analysis by the UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) may worry you if you are one for easy and convenient passwords.
According to the study, “123456,” as basic as it is, is the most common password in breached accounts, having been exposed a staggering 23 million times.
Besides this simple password that makes hackers’ job that much easier, databases of breached accounts also reveal the second most used string to be “123456789.” Other easily hacked passwords include “qwerty”, “1111111” and the yes, the word “password” itself.
The data also reveals other guessable passwords, notably in popular names and in Premier League soccer teams. The top names used include “Ashley,” followed by “Michael” and “Daniel,” while “Liverpool” is the most commonly utilized team name followed by “Chelsea.”
In addition to the list of easily hacked passwords, the study also finds that 42-percent of people quizzed expect themselves to lose money from online frauds. It is perhaps time to increase your vigilance and choose a more unique password.
