In addition to quirky furniture sets such as fat chairs, high-end homeowners are now favoring a deliciously dark design.
This is a popular trend for houses based in Southern California, where it is reported by the Los Angeles Times that the design firm Benjamin Moore Paints has seen almost a 30 percent increase in usage of black paint for interior and exterior of houses.
The appeal purportedly comes from the ability for dark hues such as ‘Midnight Oil’, ‘Black Beauty’ and ‘Graphite’ to cool off homes, as well as help the houses stand out in their immediate environment.
Popularity of dark colors is not just limited to the exteriors. Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of PANTONE Color Institute, has stated that black is also trending for walls, doors, furniture, and even in cabinetry, according to The Real Deal. The marriage to darkness is complete.
