The Daily Show Revives 2004 Video Of Trump Advising How To Tackle Walls
By Izza Sofia, 11 Jan 2019
Donald Trump seems to have a thing for walls, even before he became the US president, though it appears he did not always hold the same stance about such barriers.
Trump has been adamant on building a wall across the US border with Mexico to prevent undocumented immigrants from entering the country. While this structure is clearly meant to serve as a permanent obstruction, it appears the US leader once had a different take on the barricade.
In the wake of the ongoing US government shutdown, The Daily Show has revived a 2004 video of Trump that is just too timely. Here, the US leader offers students at Staten Island’s Wagner College advice on smashing down these dividers.
During the commencement speech, Trump proudly declares, “Don’t give up. Don’t allow it to happen. If there’s a concrete wall in front of you, go through it. Go over it. Go around it... get to the other side of the wall.”
The Daily Show host Trevor Noah captioned the tweet, “Oh man, once Trump gets his wall he better hope no one shows Mexico this old video we found.”
Noah aired the video on Wednesday night and commented, “If there’s one thing we know, it’s that nothing will stop immigrants from trying to come to America.”
He added, “This is a place that people dream of coming to, because people trying to make a better, safer life for their families will do anything to achieve that dream. And I know Donald Trump understands this—because of this video we found from 15 years ago.”
