Major Design Trends To Look Out For In 2019, Based On IKEA’s New Catalog
By Yoon Sann Wong, 03 Aug 2018
IKEA recently released its 2019 catalog that goes big and goes home in seven diverse styles.
The collection steers away from the minimalist panache that’s been riding the trend wave over the past few years. Instead, it focuses on varied lifestyles, ranging from tiny home living to eco-friendly abodes, based on its ‘Life at Home’ 2018 report.
For instance, the catalog includes the category ‘Where more is more’—dedicated to strategically styling cluttered homes—as well as ‘Room for big ideas’ that looks to more space-saving designs.
Real Simple has put together seven major design trends to keep your eyes peeled for in 2019, based on IKEA’s new catalog.

Your home doesn’t have to be minimalist to be beautiful. In IKEA’s ‘Where more is more’, you’ll get ideas on how to fashion interiors jam-packed with selective finds. It’s all about “clever ways of storing, organizing and—above all—displaying,” says the brand.
Vibrant and uplifting colors
Throughout the catalog, you’ll find splashes of bold and bright colors that will instantly lift your mood.
These don the walls, sofas, rugs, other furniture as well as interior design components across its ‘Limited space, unlimited you’ section and ‘Open up to change’ category, which is dedicated to flexible, multifunctional furniture.
Multi-purpose and space-saving designs
With tiny homes becoming increasingly popular, IKEA has set out to expand its space-saving range to alleviate the challenges that come with this compact lifestyle.
Smarter designs aim to make the most of every nook and cranny, including loft beds, folding chairs, mini kitchen units, and more.
