Melania Trump had a more recent gaffe on 4th of July involving the embarrassing misspelling of a hashtag meant to commemorate the American holiday that is Independence Day.
USA Today reported that the First Lady was among the guilty parties who had mistakenly used the hashtag #IndependanceDay instead of #IndependenceDay on Twitter. Other offenders include the City of Boston and the US Air Force.
Twitter users erupted in retaliation as some sharply pointed out that USA Today had, in fact, also used the wrong hashtag in a tweet about its article on a man who had turned his lawn into the US flag to commemorate this American holiday. The story snowballed and even resulted in some typical twitter-style snapbacks.
Mashable added that Twitter had automated the incorrect form of the hashtag at some point, and pointed out that the First Lady’s social media handler managed to catch the misspelling shortly after it was posted before replacing it with the correct hashtag instead.
Last month, Google Trends reported on words that Americans seem to have difficulty spelling. Based on the report, those from Maine appear unsure of how to spell ‘Connecticut’ and the most frequently searched word for spelling confirmation in Alabama is ‘cousin’. Meanwhile, Texas and Washington state are fixated over the spelling of ‘supercalifragilisticexpialidocious’.
