Anthony Bourdain was said to be in a “dark mood” before he died, according to chef Eric Ripert.
CNN’s Parts Unknown’s host Anthony Bourdain was found dead in an apparent suicide in Kayserberg. His death shocked the world, including his own mother, Gladys Bourdain, who didn’t believe that he would kill himself.
Bourdain travelled to France together with his crew to shoot for another series of Parts Unknown.
Days before he died, Parts Unknown cinematographer Todd Liebler took to Instagram to share a photo showing chef Eric Ripert and Bourdain cycling together on a tandem bike through Colmar in north-eastern France.
Liebler said, “Rolling like a kid in #alsace. Having fun with the #osmo and #anthonybourdain on #partsunknown #lifeontheroad #bikedate.”
Bourdain and his crew also went to a restaurant in Colmar called Wistub La Petite, where they took pictures with the restaurant’s chef Alexis Schonstein. Schonstein also took to Instagram to share his “very nice memory” of Bourdain, captioning his photo, “What a pleasure to have met you.”
Four days before he passed, Bourdain shared a photo of his lunch, where he ate at a restaurant that belongs to French chef Julien Schroeder. His last Instagram post showed the image of the meal, with caption “light lunch.”
