The Innovative ‘Bikesphere’ Surrounds Cyclists With Red Ring To Keep Them Safe
By Kylie Woon, 19 Jun 2017
In order to increase cyclist safety, Michelin has created the Bikesphere, a bicycle headlight that functions as a normal headlight by day, and encircles the rider with a bright ring of red by night.
This ring outlines what is considered to be a safe distance a car driver should keep between themselves and a bike rider. When the Bikesphere’s proximity sensor detects an approaching vehicle, the red ring doubles, simultaneously warning the rider and alerting the driver.
The headlight is a part of Michelin’s #TrendyDrivers initiative and is an attempt to reduce the amount of road accidents— thousands of these accidents are avoidable, according to Michelin.
Find out how the Bikesphere works below.
